FAQ
Why does Chrome say “Proceed with caution” or “not trusted by Enhanced Safe Browsing”?
If Chrome shows Proceed with caution or This extension is not trusted by Enhanced Safe Browsing, that is Chrome’s Enhanced Safe Browsing extra check for new extensions — not a sign that Citadel failed review.
Citadel was reviewed and published on the Chrome Web Store. If you trust the publisher, click Continue to install. Users on Standard protection may not see this warning at all.
For new developers, Google notes it generally takes a few months for an extension to become “trusted” in this system. The warning usually fades as installs and reputation build over time.
Can I unblock a site before the timer ends?
No. Citadel is built for irreversible commitment. You confirm before sealing a block, and the site stays blocked until the timer expires.
Does Citadel collect my browsing data?
No. Blocks and settings stay on your device. There is no analytics, no accounts, and no remote servers. See the privacy policy for details.
How do I block a website?
Open the Citadel popup from the toolbar, enter a domain or URL, choose a duration, check “I understand — no early unlock,” and click Commit.
What happens when I visit a blocked site?
Citadel redirects you to its blocked interstitial with a live countdown, Stoic quotes, and quick actions until the block expires.
Does Citadel work on subdomains?
Yes. Blocking example.com also covers subdomains like www.example.com
and app.example.com.
Can I sync blocks across devices?
Block lists are stored in chrome.storage.sync, so they may sync if you use
Chrome Sync. Settings and PIN hashes stay local on each device.
How do I export or import my block history?
Open Settings in the popup. Use Export to save a JSON file to your device, or Import to restore from a previous export.
Troubleshooting
A block is not taking effect
